To unlock the Abandoned Manor in Steal an Egg, you need a Manor Key, and the only way to get it is by fishing in a hidden underground pond. Reach it by riding the Phantom Express to Forgotten Town, jumping into the glowing green whirlpool, and casting until the key drops. Then walk back to the manor gate and press E on the door.
The catch is everything that comes before that. The train needs a ticket, the ticket needs a rod, and the rod needs a quest. This guide walks the whole chain in order, shows you what to do when the key refuses to drop, and explains what actually sits behind the door.
What Do You Need Before the Manor Door Will Open?
Players hit the manor gate on day one of the Halloween Dimension and assume the door is the puzzle. It isn’t. The door is the last step of a four-part chain, and skipping any link means you stand at a chained door with nothing to open it.
| Step | What you do | What you get |
| 1 | Finish Echo’s Memories (four lost items) | Leads you to the Ghost Fisherman |
| 2 | Talk to the Ghost Fisherman | The Haunted Rod |
| 3 | Clear the underwater fishing minigame | Phantom Express Ticket |
| 4 | Ride the train, fish in the secret pond | Manor Key |
| 5 | Press E on the Manor Door | Access to the house and the Fusion Machine |
If you already own the rod and the ticket from the first half of the event, skip straight to the Manor Key section below. Both items stay with you after the first event window, so you don’t repeat the quest.
How Do You Get the Phantom Express Ticket?
The ticket is the gate to everything else, and it comes from a short questline, not a shop. Start by finding Echo, the ghost dog near the witch hut in the first zone of the dimension. He has lost four keepsakes, and you collect them in any order until the tracker reads 4/4:

- Squeaky the toy: near the large pumpkin altar and pumpkin house close to Echo.
- Chewed Bone: among the rocks on the swamp riverbank, close to the train station.
- Old Collar: across the railway tracks, beside a big tree.
- Old Photograph: behind the pumpkins and rocks on the left side of the manor gate.
That last one is the item most players run straight past, because it sits in the same spot where you’ll later fight the locked door. If you want exact screenshots for each pickup, the full Echo’s Memories walkthrough covers every location in a single loop.
Hand the four items back, then follow Echo to the Ghost Fisherman on the swamp pier near Gilbert’s Hut. He gives you the Haunted Rod. Stand on the glowing pad at the end of the dock and cast into the green ripples. A huge fish drags you underwater into a sea-mine run. You steer left and right with A and D, you have three lives, and the chest at the end holds the Phantom Express Ticket.
One honest caveat: early reports said the ticket was consumed on your first ride, and a later unannounced balance change reportedly made it stay in your inventory. Check your hotbar after boarding rather than assuming either way.
Where Is the Manor Key? Fishing the Secret Whirlpool Area
This is the heart of the guide, and the step that costs players the most time. The Manor Key is not in a chest and not on a monster. It is a rare fishing drop inside a hidden pond.
Step 1: Board the Phantom Express
The Phantom Express pulls into the Haunted Swamp station every 30 minutes, on the hour and the half hour. Equip the ticket, walk up to the train, and use the Board Train prompt. Stay aboard until it reaches Forgotten Town, the isolated ghost town at the end of the line.

Step 2: Find the glowing green whirlpool
From the drop-off, head left until you reach a green pond with a swirling whirlpool on the surface. A sign beside it tells you to fish inside the event dimension. Run to the edge and jump straight into the vortex. That teleports you into the secret fishing area.
Step 3: Cast from the wooden dock
You land in a cavern with a wooden dock and a fisherman NPC named Gus, who explains he dropped the manor’s key into the water. Equip the Haunted Rod, cast into the water around the dock, and play the fishing prompt (it asks you to click fast) until the Manor Key appears in your hotbar.
No confirmed drop rate has been published for the key, so treat it as a patience job rather than a guaranteed number of casts.
Manor Key Not Dropping? Fixes That Actually Help
Most “the key won’t drop” complaints trace back to one of three setup mistakes, not bad luck.
- Your hotbar is full. Fishing here also pulls up eggs. Once your hotbar fills, the rod can unequip itself and your next cast does nothing. Clear a few slots before you start.
- You’re fishing in the wrong pond. Casting in the swamp pier water earns Candy Corn and the odd egg, but the key only comes from the pond below the whirlpool.
- You missed the train window. The cavern is reachable only from Forgotten Town. If you miss a departure, wait for the next :00 or :30 and don’t waste the wait running laps.
If the cast prompt still won’t fire, rejoin the server and ride the train again. The secret area loads when you enter it, so a fresh visit resets a bugged instance.
How Do You Open the Manor Door?

With the key in your hotbar, teleport or walk back out to the Corrupted Realm and run to the large locked gate. The door is chained and labeled with a Halloween Part 2 countdown, and it shows “Locked” until you approach with the key. Hold the Manor Key and press E on the door.
You only unlock it once. After that, the door stays open for the rest of the event, so you can leave, hatch eggs, and come back to the house without redoing the fishing.
One detail worth knowing: the Abandoned Manor biome itself was open long before the door was. Its grounds have held the rarest secret eggs, including Blood Moon spawns and the Secret Werewolf Egg, since the first half of the event. What the key unlocks is the house, not the area around it.
What Is Inside the Abandoned Manor? The Fusion Machine
Upstairs on the first floor, you find a room with four pedestals. That is the new Fusion Machine, and it works differently from the fuse machines in earlier biomes because it needs two players.
The official update notes name the ingredients as Ghost Fish (Eternal) and Voidseer Pumpkin (Divine). You and a partner place them on the pedestals, and the machine hands both of you a Divine Cursed Monarch Egg. Carry the egg back to your base and place it to hatch the pet.
A few things to be careful about:
- Quantities differ between reports. Some players describe one of each per person, others describe two Ghost Fish and two of a pumpkin variant across all four pedestals. Four pedestals and two players suggests two pets each, but check the on-screen requirement before you commit rare pets.
- Voidseer Pumpkin is the hard part. It comes from the manor’s egg pool at a very low spawn weight, and it is not inside the Halloween Dimension Egg. Reported income sits around the low-teens of billions per second.
- Ghost Fish comes from fishing. It is an Eternal pet, and reported base income ranges from roughly $1.5B to $3B per second depending on the source.
Browsing every pet that spawns here? The complete all pets list tracks rarity and base income for each one.
Should You Unlock the Abandoned Manor Before the Event Ends?
Timing matters more than most guides admit. The official listing for Halloween Part 2 ran from October 24 at 15:00 UTC to October 25 at 16:34 UTC, so the window is short. Part 2 also added a two-phase Pumpkin Boss fight, 65 reward tiers, and six new pets, and all of it is tied to that window.

As of this update, nobody has confirmed whether the manor door, the fusion recipe, or the Manor Key return later. The Haunted Rod and the ticket survive the event, but event eggs have been removed when events close. If the Divine Cursed Monarch matters to you, do the chain now rather than banking on a rerun. If the window has already closed when you read this, the steps above stay accurate for the next time the manor is available, though details may change if the developers rebalance it.
Finally, ignore any site offering free Manor Keys or a “secret code.” Steal an Egg has no code system, and no one can hand you the key. It has to be fished.
