The Steal an Egg Mounts update is live. Update 8 dropped on Saturday, October 10, 2026, right after that week’s Admin Abuse event, and it lets you turn any pet you own into a rideable mount. You need a Shooting Star to do it, and the change is permanent, so it’s worth reading this page before you burn your first one.
Mounts aren’t the only thing in the patch. Update 8 also added a Racing Event that runs every 30 minutes, with its own Trophies currency, an event shop and a Win Pass, and it ends with a teaser for a Halloween Dimension expansion due next week. Everything here comes from the patch notes the developers posted in the game’s Discord, cross-checked against several independent write-ups of the update. Where those sources disagree, I say so. Last updated: October 11, 2026.
What Came With the Steal an Egg Mounts Update
Here’s the short version before the details. Every row below is covered in its own section further down.
| New feature | What it does |
| Mounts | Feed a Shooting Star to a pet and it becomes rideable |
| Shooting Stars | Free from a rare nightly event, or bought from the Star Handler for Robux |
| Star Handler (Stellaris) | New NPC at Spawn who sells stars, capped at 5 per week |
| Racing Event | A three-lap pet race that starts every 30 minutes |
| Racing shop and Win Pass | Trophies buy boosters and a mutation, and race wins unlock five new racer pets |
| Halloween Dimension | Announced in the patch notes for next week |
What Time Did the Mounts Update Go Live?
Update 8 followed Admin Abuse #8, which opened at 3:00 PM UTC on Saturday, October 10. The patch went live once the event wrapped. Admin Abuse usually runs 30 to 60 minutes, so most players saw the mounts feature roughly an hour after the clock times below. The developers never published the exact minute the rollout finished, and past drops have slipped by several minutes, so treat these as event start times.
| Time zone | Admin Abuse #8 opened (Sat, Oct 10) |
| UTC | 3:00 PM |
| US Pacific (PDT) | 8:00 AM |
| US Mountain (MDT) | 9:00 AM |
| US Central (CDT) | 10:00 AM |
| US Eastern (EDT) | 11:00 AM |
| UK (BST) | 4:00 PM |
| Central Europe (CEST) | 5:00 PM |
| India (IST) | 8:30 PM |
| Eastern Australia (AEST) | 1:00 AM, Sunday |
Those same slots are your best guess for next Saturday, since the game has shipped a major patch almost every week since launch. It’s a pattern, not a promise. The event listing on the official Roblox game page is the only place that confirms a time for any given week.
From Cutscene Teaser to Live Update
The first hint showed up at the end of the Enchanted Forest event cutscene, when the game flashed a short “mounts are coming” message after the biome showcase. A named listing, “Mounts Are Coming: Rideable Pets,” followed within days. Now that the patch is out, the teaser has turned into a fairly simple system, with a few catches covered below.

One thing worth clearing up, because it trips people in search results: Ride A Pet is a completely separate Roblox game from a different developer. Some creators called the mounts teaser a response to it, but the Steal an Egg team never said that, and the two games don’t share any rewards or mechanics.
How to Get Shooting Stars in Steal an Egg
Every mount costs exactly one Shooting Star, and the star is consumed when you use it. The patch notes call the item a Shooting Star, while a lot of player guides say Mount Star or just “Star.” It’s the same item. There are two ways to get one.
The Free Route: the Nightly Shooting Star Event
Every in-game night, there’s a rare chance that a Shooting Star event triggers. The sky darkens, a star falls, and every eligible player in the server gets one. The catch is that you have to be in the server from the start of that in-game day. Hopping servers to chase the event won’t work, because you won’t qualify for the reward. The event also rolls per server, so your friend’s server can get a star while yours doesn’t.
The Paid Route: Stellaris the Star Handler
The new Star Handler, named Stellaris, stands at Spawn. Talk to the NPC and open the star shop to buy stars with Robux, up to 5 per week. The weekly limit resets every Saturday. Several guides put the full five-star week at 1,399 Robux, but prices can change between patches, so check the shop screen before you pay.

How to Turn a Pet Into a Mount and Ride It
The process takes under a minute once you have a star in your inventory:
- Equip the Shooting Star from your inventory.
- Walk up to a pet in your pen and use the “feed star” prompt on it.
- Confirm the warning screen. The game asks you to apply the star, and this is your last chance to back out.
- Open the equipped pet menu on the right side of the screen and press the green Ride button above Unequip.
- Press Dismount whenever you want to hop off.
Two details matter here. First, the change can’t be undone, so pick the pet carefully. Second, a mounted pet isn’t taken out of the economy: you can still place it in your pen and it keeps earning money like before. Players testing the feature also report that you can only ride pets that are currently equipped in your pen, which makes a low earner a poor choice.
Do Mounts Make You Faster?
No. As of the October 10 patch, mounts are a visual flex with no Speed bonus, no extra carry weight and no guardian advantage. Riding a top pet doesn’t speed up your treadmill progress either. So if you were hoping mounts would shortcut the Speed grind toward the deeper biomes, keep training the old way and treat the mount as a cosmetic reward. That could change in a future patch, and this page will be updated if it does.
Which Pet Should You Turn Into a Mount?
Any pet qualifies, so this comes down to taste and income. If you want something that looks the part, the roster has a few natural saddle candidates: Pegasus and Skeleton Horse (both Eternal, from the Angels and Demons biome), plus Centaur and Stag at Secret rarity. That’s a style opinion, not a game rule.

The safer rule is to pick a pet you plan to keep. Nobody has confirmed what happens to the mount status if you fuse or sell the pet, and since riding reportedly needs the pet equipped, a high earner in your pen is the best use of a star. A pet carrying the Enchanted mutation is also a fun pick if you want the mount to stand out in a crowded server.
How the Steal an Egg Racing Event Works
The Racing Event is the other half of Update 8, and it’s the part you can enjoy without spending a single Robux. A race starts every 30 minutes in each server. When one is active, a portal appears in one of the biomes and the server announcement tells you where. Step through it, the same way you’d enter the Mech boss fight, and you’re in the lobby.

The race is Mario Kart-style: three laps around a track with speed boost strips and power-ups you can collect, some of which drop obstacles in front of your opponents. Everyone starts with the Ostrich as their base racer, which you upgrade with Wins. Reports say there’s no minimum Speed to enter, so a fresh account can join the same race as a late-game one. Winning pays 1 Win and 2,500 Trophies.
Racing Event Shop: What Trophies Buy
| Item | Cost | Details |
| Nitro mutation | 475 Trophies | Mutation consumable |
| 2x Cash Booster | 275 Trophies | 10 minutes |
| 1.25x Speed Booster | 375 Trophies | 5 minutes |
| 2x Treadmill Booster | 375 Trophies | 10 minutes |
| Racing Bat | 10,000 Trophies | Permanent |
| 2x Trophies | Robux | Doubles Trophy earnings |
The shop is reported to be tied to this week’s event, so spend your Trophies on the Nitro mutation and the Racing Bat before the lineup rotates out. The boosters are short, so save them for a moment when you’re actively hatching or grinding rather than popping them while you’re idle.
Racing Win Pass Rewards
Every win moves you along the Win Pass, a milestone track with five exclusive racer pets and bundles of Trophies:
| Wins | Reward |
| 1 | Seahorse Egg + Seahorse Racer |
| 3 | 475 Trophies |
| 5 | Lizard Egg + Lizard Racer |
| 7 | 475 Trophies |
| 10 | 625 Trophies |
| 12 | 625 Trophies |
| 15 | Bird Egg + Bird Racer |
| 17 | 845 Trophies |
| 19 | 845 Trophies |
| 21 | Cheetah Egg + Cheetah Racer |
| 24 | 1,250 Trophies |
| 27 | 1,250 Trophies |
| 30 | Snail Egg + Snail Racer |
| 35 | 1,250 Trophies |
Thirty-five wins is a real grind at one race every 30 minutes, since you won’t win every one. If the event really does leave after this week, the Seahorse and Lizard at 1 and 5 wins are the cheap targets worth locking in first.
Mistakes to Avoid With Your First Shooting Star
- Using it on a pet you might fuse or sell. The effect is permanent, and nobody knows yet how it carries over.
- Server hopping for the Star event. You only qualify if you were in the server when that in-game day began.
- Expecting a Speed boost. Mounts are cosmetic right now, so don’t skip treadmill upgrades for them.
- Making a low earner your mount. If you can only ride equipped pets, an unequipped pet is a wasted star.
- Ignoring the Racing shop. Trophy items are reportedly tied to the event window.

What’s Next: the Halloween Dimension Expansion
The Update 8 patch notes close with a line telling players to be back next week for the Halloween Dimension Expansion. It’s been described as a two-part Halloween event that adds an entirely new dimension to explore. Nothing about its rewards, pets or Speed requirements has been published yet, so there’s nothing to prepare for beyond the usual: bank your cash, clear pen space and keep a few Shooting Stars handy in case the new content gives mounts more to do. Based on the weekly pattern, Saturday, October 17 looks likely, but the developers haven’t confirmed a date.
