To get the Enchanted Mutation in Steal an Egg, you need 50B Speed, a finished Wisp questline, and a stack of butterflies. Catch them during Butterfly Bloom, redeem them at the Enchanted Mutation Shrine for Enchanted Essence, then use the Essence on an egg that hasn’t hatched yet. The mutation lands every time.
The catch is the price. One Essence eats 396 butterflies if you catch every tier directly, so the real question isn’t how to get it. It’s which egg deserves it.
What Is the Enchanted Mutation, and What Does “100%” Actually Mean?
The Enchanted Mutation is a pet modifier that arrived with Update 7 and the Enchanted Forest biome. It’s the first mutation in the game you can force onto an egg with a guaranteed result. Every other consumable method is a gamble.
Here’s the part that trips people up. The shrine shows 100%, and that number is the application chance. It tells you the mutation will stick. It says nothing about how much income the mutation adds. Players mix those two up constantly, and a few guides still do.

For comparison, the Mutation Consumable sold in the Boss Shop only has a 10% chance to apply Fractured. Enchanted Essence removes the dice roll entirely. You pay once, and the result is locked.
What Do You Need Before You Can Use the Enchanted Mutation Shrine?
The shrine sits inside a secret room, so there’s a chain to finish first. Skip a link and nothing opens.
| Step | Requirement | Why it matters |
| 1 | 50B Speed | Below this, the Lion guardian catches you and the Wisp never spawns |
| 2 | Three Grow Your Wisp quests | Steal Enchanted Forest eggs, fuse one of the biome’s pets, steal any Eternal egg |
| 3 | Press Return the Wisp | Moves Wisp to Stage 4 and unlocks the door |
| 4 | Enter the tree behind the biome boss | Opens the secret room with the shrine |
| 5 | Grab the free Butterfly Net | Butterflies don’t spawn for you without it |
The full walkthrough for the first three steps lives in the Wisp quests guide, and the door itself is covered in the Enchanted Tree breakdown. The Eternal egg is the step that slows most players down, so start watching for spawns while you farm the first batch of eggs.
What Is the Enchanted Essence Recipe?
One Enchanted Essence costs four butterfly types, redeemed at the shrine:
| Butterfly | Amount per Essence |
| Emerald | 240 |
| Sapphire | 115 |
| Amethyst | 40 |
| Radiant | 1 |
That’s 396 butterflies in total. If you’d rather trade up from Emerald only, the Conversion Center inside the tree swaps 10 Emerald for 1 Sapphire, 10 Sapphire for 1 Amethyst, and 50 Amethyst for 1 Radiant.
Run those rates through the recipe and one Essence equals roughly 10,390 Emerald Butterflies (240 + 1,150 + 4,000 + 5,000). That’s my own arithmetic from the posted trade rates, not an in-game number, but it shows why a lucky wild Radiant is such a big deal. The Radiant alone is worth 5,000 Emerald catches.

Two habits save you time. Keep your first 240 Emerald untouched, because the recipe needs them as Emerald. And check what the shrine still needs before you spend anything at the Conversion Center. Trading blindly is the fastest way to end up with 90 Sapphire and no Radiant.
For the catching side, including timing and why butterflies sometimes won’t show, see the Butterfly Bloom guide.
How Do You Apply Enchanted Essence to an Egg?
Once the Essence is crafted, the process is short.
- Place the egg you want to mutate at your base. It must be unhatched.
- Interact with the Enchanted Mutation Shrine (or follow the prompt your Essence shows) and pick the egg when asked.
- Confirm the shell changed. The egg takes on the new look, and the pet that hatches carries the Enchanted variant.
- Hatch it as normal. Nothing else is needed.
Each Essence mutates one egg. There’s no partial credit and no refund if you pick the wrong target, which is why the choice in the next section matters so much.
One warning: Steal an Egg has no code system. Any site promising free Essence or butterfly codes is a scam. The only route is the grind.
How Much Does the Enchanted Mutation Multiply Income?
Nobody knows for certain yet. The developers haven’t published a multiplier, and player-built trackers disagree.
| Estimate type | Figure | Confidence |
| Low community estimate | about 2.5x | Unconfirmed |
| Middle estimate | about 2.85x | Unconfirmed |
| High community estimate | about 3.2x | Unconfirmed |
Treat all three as guesses until the game or the devs settle it. Here’s how that range sits next to mutations whose income multiplier is better documented:
| Mutation | Multiplier |
| Silver | 1.25x |
| Bloom | 1.5x |
| Golden | 2x |
| Rainbow | 2.5x (one list says 3.5x) |
| Fractured | about 2.75x |
| Spirit Bloom | 3x |
So Enchanted most likely lands in the same bracket as Fractured and Spirit Bloom. It’s strong, but it isn’t a game-breaking jump, and that matters when you’re pricing out 10,000 Emerald-equivalents.
Final earnings follow one formula: base income Γ mutation multiplier Γ size multiplier. As an illustration only, take a pet earning 100 per second at base with a 5x size roll. An Enchanted multiplier between 2.5x and 3.2x would put it at roughly 1,250 to 1,600 per second. The same mutation on a tiny pet barely moves the needle.
Which Egg Should You Spend Your First Essence On?
Pick the biggest base to multiply. Mutation and size roll separately, so a heavy egg from a high-rarity pet gives the multiplier the most to work with.
- Choose a pet you’d keep anyway. An Essence on a throwaway egg is 396 butterflies wasted.
- Prefer heavy eggs. Larger eggs hatch into heavier pets, and the multiplier compounds on top.
- Decide before you farm. Settling on a target keeps the whole grind pointed at one payoff.
- Consider the new pets. The eight Enchanted Forest creatures are the obvious candidates, though you can mutate eggs from other biomes too.
If you landed a premium hatch like the Extinction Egg or an Eternal pull, that’s exactly the kind of egg this mutation was built for.
Does Fusing Keep the Enchanted Mutation?
This is where players burn their best pets. The Fuse Machine consumes three copies of the same species and returns a new egg with a rerolled size, and mutations can be lost when you mix mutated and plain pets.

The safe rule from how mutations work in general: fuse three pets that share the same mutation, or don’t fuse your mutated pet at all. Whether the Enchanted Mutation follows that rule exactly hasn’t been tested widely, so hold your best Enchanted pet back until you know.
Is Enchanted Essence Better Than the Mutation Consumable?
They solve different problems.
| Feature | Enchanted Essence | Mutation Consumable |
| Mutation applied | Enchanted | Fractured |
| Chance | 100% | 10% per use |
| Cost | 396 butterflies | 400 Boss Tokens per consumable |
| Where | Enchanted Mutation Shrine | Boss Shop |
| Best for | One guaranteed premium egg | Cheap gambling on several eggs |
If you’ve been grinding the Rift event for Boss Tokens, the consumable is the lower-commitment option. If you want certainty on one egg, Essence wins.
Is the Enchanted Mutation Worth the Grind?
If you’re past 50B Speed and already own an egg or pet worth upgrading, yes. The guaranteed result removes the gamble that makes other mutations frustrating, and the earlier you open the tree, the more Butterfly Bloom windows you can use.

If you’re short on Speed, don’t force it. Walking into the biome under-geared gets you chased and gets you nothing. Build income first, raise Speed, then come back.
My honest take: this is an endgame value move, not an early-game shortcut. The cost is large, the multiplier is likely near 3x, and a bad egg choice throws the whole investment away.
What’s Still Unconfirmed?
Some details differ between sources, and flagging them beats guessing:
- The exact income multiplier. Estimates run from about 2.5x to 3.2x.
- Butterfly Bloom timing. Often reported as every 30 minutes around :15 and :45, but not officially confirmed.
- Wisp quest counts. Some trackers say 10 eggs, others 20. Follow your own tracker.
- Whether Essence works on an egg that already has a mutation. Sources disagree, so test on a spare before committing a rare.
- Whether the recipe changes. Costs are the kind of thing devs tune in early patches, so recheck after each Saturday update.
