To get the Ghost Fish in Steal an Egg, finish Echo’s quest to earn the Haunted Rod, enter the Halloween Dimension, and keep fishing in any water until the special sea-mine minigame triggers. Survive it and you grab the Eternal pet. The reported drop rate sits around 0.1% per catch, so this is a patience grind, not a skill check.
The Ghost Fish matters more now than it did a week ago. Since Update 10 went live on October 24, 2026, it is one half of the recipe for the Divine Cursed Monarch, and that turned a “nice rare catch” into a pet people actively hunt.
What Is the Ghost Fish in Steal an Egg?
The Ghost Fish is an Eternal-rarity pet that you catch by fishing, not by hatching an egg. It looks like a blue-and-white skeletal fish with a glowing cyan eye, and it only exists in the Halloween Dimension.

That fishing-only source sets it apart from the 18 biome pets in the dimension, which all come from stolen or purchased eggs. If you want the full rarity picture, our list of all pets shows where Eternal sits among the game’s ten rarity tiers.
It also has a job. The Ghost Fish is a required ingredient for the Divine Fuse inside the Abandoned Manor, which we cover further down.
What Do You Need Before Your First Cast?
You can’t walk up to the water and start fishing. Three gates stand in the way, and skipping the order just wastes trips.
| Requirement | Details |
| Speed requirement | At least 2.5 million Speed to use the portal beside the Trails Shop |
| Echo’s Memories quest | Find and return all four of Echo’s lost items (the tracker must read 4/4) |
| Haunted Rod | Handed over by the Ghost Fisherman at the pier after Echo leads you to him |

The Haunted Rod is the key item. No other rod triggers the Ghost Fish, and no shop sells it. If you haven’t finished the quest chain yet, do that first, then come back.
Good news if you already own the rod: the same one works in Part 2. You don’t need a new item to chase the Ghost Fish.
Where Do You Fish for the Ghost Fish?
Anywhere with water inside the Halloween Dimension. No hidden pond, no special spawn point.

Most players cast from the pier in the Haunted Swamp because the water is easy to reach and the area is safe. Other shorelines work the same way. The game rolls the same catch table wherever you stand, so pick the spot where you can fish comfortably for a long stretch.
One practical note: keep the rod on its own hotbar slot. If you swap to eggs or a bat and forget to re-equip, you lose casts without noticing.
How Do You Beat the Ghost Fish Minigame?
When the Ghost Fish bites, a short cutscene pulls you underwater and starts a runner-style minigame. This is the part that separates a hooked fish from a caught one.
Here’s how it plays out:
- The fish drags you forward along a fixed path while you hold onto the rod.
- Sea mines float into your lane. Press A or D on PC to steer left or right.
- A progress bar at the top shows how far the run goes. Three hearts sit underneath it.
- Reach the end of the bar and your character grabs the fish.
You have three lives, so one or two mistakes won’t end the run. Use short, small taps. Long holds swing you across the lane and straight into the next mine. Read the mines early instead of reacting to them late.
This is the same mine-dodging idea as the Phantom Express ticket run, so that run doubles as free practice. Mobile steering hasn’t been confirmed, so expect touch controls but don’t count on specifics.
What Is the Ghost Fish Drop Rate?
Community reports put the drop rate at about 0.1% per catch, which works out to roughly one Ghost Fish per 1,000 catches on average. The developers haven’t published an official number, so treat 0.1% as an estimate.
Here’s what that estimate means in practice. Each cast rolls on its own, so a long dry streak never improves your next chance. The math below is based on the unofficial 0.1% figure:
| Catches | Chance of at least one Ghost Fish |
| 500 | About 39% |
| 1,000 | About 63% |
| 2,000 | About 86% |
| 3,000 | About 95% |
Real player reports match that spread. Some players landed it inside two hours of fishing, others went past five hours with nothing, and a few have pulled two copies. That’s normal RNG behavior, not a bug.
No item, gamepass, or trick raises the odds. Anyone selling a guaranteed method is either guessing or scamming you.
How Much Does the Ghost Fish Earn Per Second?
This is where the sources disagree, so here’s what’s been reported rather than a single confident number.
| Reported base income | Where it shows up |
| About $1.5B/s | Several pet indexes and guides |
| About $3B/s | One event catalogue |
| About $5B/s | A rough estimate from a gameplay video |
The $1.5B/s figure is the most common, but none of these are confirmed by the developers. Your own Pet Index is the only number that matters for your base, so check it after you catch one. Mutations and size traits multiply base income, which can push a specific copy far above or below the listed figure.
Is Fusing the Ghost Fish Into a Cursed Monarch Worth It?
The Divine Fuse lives upstairs in the Abandoned Manor. Two players stand at a four-pedestal altar, and each player contributes one Ghost Fish and one Divine Voidseer Pumpkin. Both of you then receive a Divine Cursed Monarch Egg to hatch at your base.

You’ll also need a Manor Key to open the door, which comes from the secret fishing area in Forgotten Town. Our Halloween Part 2 guide covers the full unlock chain.
Before you commit, weigh the trade:
- The Cursed Monarch’s income is unconfirmed. Reported base figures sit around $12.5B/s, but that hasn’t been verified.
- The fusion consumes the Voidseer Pumpkin, which already reports roughly $12.5B to $14B per second at base. If the lower numbers are right, you’d give up a stronger earner.
- It’s a collection play. The Cursed Monarch only comes from this fusion, so fuse for the Index and bragging rights, not for guaranteed income.
Only fuse with a partner you can verify has a Voidseer. Read the pedestal prompt before placing any pet, because reports differ on mutation carry-over and nobody has settled it yet.
Can You AFK Fish for the Ghost Fish?
Partly. A fishing macro can handle regular casts, but it can’t finish the sea-mine run because that needs live steering input. If the Ghost Fish bites while your macro runs alone, you lose the catch.
A semi-auto setup works better. Let the macro cast and reel, then take over manually when the minigame starts. Treat any “fully hands-free” promise with suspicion, and re-test your setup after every Roblox update since interface changes break macros.
Does the Fishing Grind Pay Off Even Without a Ghost Fish?
Yes, and this is the best reason to stay patient. Regular catches in the Halloween Dimension pay roughly 20 to 40 Candy Corn each.
Run the numbers:
- A Halloween Dimension Egg costs 2,250 Candy Corn.
- At 20 to 40 per catch, that’s roughly 56 to 113 catches per egg.
- A full 1,000-catch grind (the average wait for one Ghost Fish) earns about 20,000 to 40,000 Candy Corn, enough for 9 to 18 eggs.
So even a bad-luck streak leaves you with real progress. Fish during a Blood Moon to double the Candy Corn on every catch.
Mistakes That Cost Players a Ghost Fish
- Leaving a macro unattended. The minigame needs you, and the bite won’t wait.
- Holding the steering key too long. Short taps keep you in control.
- Forgetting to re-equip the rod. A swapped hotbar slot burns casts silently.
- Fusing without checking a partner’s pets. Verify the Voidseer before you hand over your Ghost Fish.
- Falling for “guaranteed Ghost Fish” offers. Never share your password or pay Robux outside the game. Steal an Egg has no code redeem box, so free-fish codes are fake.
How Long Do You Have?
The Halloween event started with Update 9 on October 17, and Part 2 opened on October 24. A hard end date for Part 2 hasn’t been published, and event eggs have been removed when past events closed. The rod and ticket have survived earlier event ends, but nobody has confirmed the Manor door or the fusion will return.
If the Cursed Monarch matters to you, don’t bank on a rerun. Start fishing now, and while you wait for the bite, clear the Pumpkin Boss fight for the Mastery track rewards.
