Treat the grow time and purchase limit as “reported, not confirmed.” Both come from one wiki reading each, and the shop panel in your own game is the final word.
You Buy This One, You Don’t Steal It
Most headline eggs in Steal an Egg are chases. You spot a nest, grab the egg and survive the run home. The Angel Egg chase works that way, and the Titan Temple nests guarded by the Gorilla King punish anyone who is short on Speed.
Experiment #001 flips that. Anyone who can swing a bat and keep count of their Samples can own a Secret pet, no matter how the last stealing run went.
There is one Speed catch. Biomes unlock in order as your Speed climbs, and the drones start at Abyss Ocean. One community guide says they run through the Angels & Demons biome, another says every biome after Abyss Ocean, so check which zones your Speed can actually reach before you plan a route.
Dr. Scramble himself showed up at the end of the Sammy event, and his drones stayed behind when the dust settled. Those drones are your Sample supply.
How Many Samples Does 6,500 Really Take?
Drone payouts are uneven. Creator footage shows small drones dropping single-digit and low double-digit amounts (+7, +14, +15) while tougher ones can pay +44 in a single kill. Higher-HP drones pay more, and the wiki’s drone tiers sit at 3, 5 and 10 HP.
That matters for pace. One guide reports well over 2,000 Samples from a single wave by sprinting through every biome instead of camping one spot. Another creator’s balance sat at 2,153 after one window. If you match that best case, 6,500 Samples takes about four waves, which is roughly an hour and a half of clock time.
Treat 2,000 as a ceiling for a well-run wave, not a promise. A first attempt, especially one interrupted by a guardian or a slow route, will pay less.

A Farming Route That Squeezes the Five-Minute Window
Five minutes disappears fast, so the prep matters more than the swinging.
- Talk to Nibbles once before you farm. He hides in a cave on the Abyss Ocean wall, and guides disagree on left versus right, so scan both sides. One guide says Drone Parts and Lost Parts don’t register until the quest is logged with him.
- Watch the bottom-left countdown and be in the game before it hits zero. Every server starts the invasion together, so hopping servers doesn’t buy you an extra wave.
- Move outward and don’t camp. Sprint through the biomes and clear drones as you pass. Take the high-HP ones first because they pay the most Samples.
- Use your bat. Drones lose 1 HP per hit, and the weakest die in a few swings.
- Bank any rare egg before you join a fight. Cross-map skirmishes are how carried eggs get stolen.
- Use the 25-minute gap between waves to grab the two Lost Parts for the vault instead of standing idle. Both sit near Abyss Ocean, one by the sleeping T-Rex in Prehistoric and one inside the Volcano biome.
Finishing the five-part vault quest (two Lost Parts and three Drone Parts) unlocks the limited Scrambler bat. TechWiser says it can land double hits, which would speed up later Sample farming, though I’d treat that as reported rather than measured. Between waves, open the Experiment Shop. One wiki places it under the pet menu, while another guide opened it from the safe zone after the wave ended.
Is the Experiment #001 Egg Worth 6,500 Samples?
For most players, yes, and the price comparison shows why. Nibbles #013 costs 2,950 Samples for a Cosmic pet that earns $185K/s. Experiment #001 costs about 2.2 times more and earns more than 1,500 times the base income. That gap is the whole argument.
The Scrambled mutation is the other big Sample sink, and it’s a gamble. Most sources list a 10% chance per consumable, and 13 stamps at that rate gives roughly a 75% chance of landing at least one. One guide lists 1% instead, and at 1% the same 13 stamps land closer to 12%. The multiplier itself hasn’t been confirmed in anything I checked. The Rift event has a similar setup, where Boss Tokens buy a Fractured consumable with the same 10% chance.
So the honest split looks like this:
- No Secret-tier income pet yet: buy the egg first. A guaranteed $285M/s beats a random stamp.
- Already running much stronger pets: the upgrade is smaller, and a few Scrambled stamps on a late-game egg may make more sense. Weigh it against your own lineup.
- Stuck on Speed: a Treadmill Booster or the 1.25x Speed boost helps you reach better nests, but only after the egg is secured.
Anyone also hunting the Tiger Egg or the Angel Egg should remember one thing. Those run on your normal play time, while Samples only flow in short scheduled windows. Miss the drone waves and you can’t make that time back.
Hatch Time, Income and What Changes the Final Number
Buying the egg isn’t the end. It still has to grow. The Fandom wiki lists a grow time of 3 hours 30 minutes, which fits the pattern that Secret, Eternal and Divine eggs generally take several hours. Egg size, mutations and active growth boosts can all shift that, so use the timer in your own game.
The $285M/s figure is the base income. The Fandom wiki’s formula multiplies base income by the mutation multiplier and the size multiplier to get the final number. Whether shop-bought eggs roll a size at all isn’t stated in the sources I checked, so don’t be surprised if your pet’s displayed income differs from base.
Will the Egg Still Be There After September 26?
The developers haven’t published an exact removal time for the shop, and nobody has confirmed whether unspent Samples carry over. Steal an Egg updates have been landing on a roughly weekly rhythm, so the switchover could come quickly. The Fandom wiki is worth checking for changes.
The Order I’d Spend Samples In
- Finish the Nibbles vault quest, since it costs only time.
- Save to 6,500 and buy the Experiment #001 Egg before anything else.
- Spend the leftovers on Scrambled stamps or boosters.
If a wave is about to start and you’re 800 Samples short, the extra wave is worth more than any booster. The egg is the only item in the shop that can’t be replaced once the timer runs out.
